So, I’m leaning into my new career as an influencer/content creator. I have 21K followers on TikTok and a few hundred others scattered across various other platforms. No money yet, but it’s coming!
It’s been wild. My followers are super engaged, and the algorithm has picked up my content a few times, so I have a few viral videos under my belt, which is super wild.
My days are equal parts video making, social media posting and trying not to rot in bed, which is weird. Part anemia, part not quite yet deprogrammed from having a traditional job. But we’re getting there!
All I need now are the brand deals. Come on brands!
Wish me luck. My followers want me to turn my content into a book so I’ve been working on that. ‘Cuz, money, duh. But also because they really seem to like what I have to say. They say it’s helping them, which I’m by turns grateful for and shocked at. But I’m here for it, regardless.
Anyway, here’s another snippet from book 2 in my Idol Love series. I hope you read the first book Saints and Sinnas. If you did, thank you! Please leave me a review on Amazon, ok?
In this snippet, which picks up where last week’s left off, Bik continues his pursuit of our skittish heroine. But now he’s looking for answers. Unfortunately for him those who know Vi’s story are keeping the details close to their chest. This leaves our hero in the dark and stumped on how to move forward.
If you’re feeling as frustrated as he is, take a look at Noh Sang Hyun (pictured here) who I think has the most masculine arresting face I’ve seen in a while. He’s one of those handsome aliens, if you know what I mean. He’s starring with Kim Go Eun in “Love in the Big City.” I wanna see it. I’m confused from the snippets — is he gay or nah? Doesn’t actually matter a lick, I’m still watching it!
…
“Why is Vi scared of me?”
Sinna didn’t look up from the shirt she was hanging. In fact, she made Bik follow her as she moved a few racks to evaluate the shirt against a pair of pants.
“Sinna!”
“Impatient much?” she teased.
“Beating around the bush is boring and a waste of time. Please tell me. I’ve tried and tried to get her to open up to me, but I need help.” He knew he was begging and didn’t give a shit. He was desperate. One tiny woman with hair bluer than his eyes had him tied up in sailors’ knots.
“Vi was married before.”
“Really?” So Tan was right. The thought of it really pissed him off. “She must have been very young. She’s only what, 25, now?”
“26. And she was. She’s been divorced for three years now, I think.”
“Good grief,” he muttered. “She was a teenager.”
“Hmm mmm. It’s not that uncommon in the south. Her parents approved of him, and they were older.”
“So, her parents are dead. They probably thought marriage was the best thing for her,” he guessed.
She nodded.
“They wanted to know she was settled before they passed.”
“Bingo.”
“But it didn’t go well.”
“No.”
He waited. “Well, why not? Was he a cheater, a bum, what?”
“That’s Vi’s story to tell.”
“And she walks away,” he muttered.
Behind him Saint laughed.
“And what’s so bloody funny?”
“I’ve been wondering when you were gonna ask.”
“I’m surprised you didn’t volunteer some information. You’ve never minded sharing a little gossip.”
Saint winked. “No, I don’t. But Vi’s a good girl. If all you want is quick pussy, leave her alone.”
“I don’t want that.”
“You sure? I know you Koreans have a thing for Black women.”
“First of all, stop saying that. You make us sound like freaks when we’re just like every other reasonable man with working eye sight. And second, I have a thing for all women. That is not why I like Vi. I want to keep her.”
Saint’s brows rose. “Oh really? Without even a kiss? You ain’t even get the drawls yet. What if she’s a dud?”
“I’ll teach her everything she needs to know.”
Saint laughed and clapped him on the shoulder. “Good man. She’s a sweetheart. And I don’t think she’ll be a dud.”
“Really?”
“Mmm. We used to go out dancing every now and then at home. You can tell a lot about someone’s bed style by the way they dance.”
True, Bik thought. “Tell me more about her, please,” he begged, shamelessly using eyelashes and pout and rubbing his hands in supplicating Korean fashion.
“Besides the fact that she’s a wonderful dancer?”
“Yes, more, please.”
Saint stared at him, and Bik stared back.
“I don’t know, Bik.”
“Did you know my parents have been married for almost 30 years?” Bik said suddenly.
Saint shook his head.
“That’s 30 continuous years,” Bik repeated. “And to my knowledge neither of them has ever strayed. My mother and father spend some part of every day in each other’s arms, and they work together.
“My dad always told me that when you find the one you just know. Even if you’ve been tomcatting around, when you find that one, no other woman will interest you. Since Vi came to Korea, I haven’t even looked at another woman. I literally don’t see them. And if they move into my line of sight, I look over their heads so I can keep my eyes on her.”
Saint stared at him. “You’re good.”
“Thank you.”
“Did you just make that up?”
“No. Every word is true,” Bik said. “I told my members if possible, she is not to do their hair, to leave her to me. They are not to feed her, and if there are seating arrangements, they are to maneuver so that she is by my side. Also, if there are any opportunities for them to make me look good in front of her, they are to take them.”
Saint laughed softly. “So, you think she’s the one?”
“I’m almost 100 percent sure.”
“Your fans aren’t going to like this. Two members down thanks to Black women.”
“I could give a shit. Besides, our fans are increasingly international, and our Black fan base is growing thanks to you, Sinna, and the rest of the crew. And while my fans are important to me, I don’t actually live my life to please them, especially if they’re racist, or they want me to spend my life alone.”
“And what about the rule that idols aren’t supposed to date?”
“I don’t give a shit about that either. I’ve followed the rule long enough. I can always work in other countries if South Korea kicks me out. England, for instance. As long as you don’t say anything against the Queen, the Brits don’t care if you’re a celebrity with a love life.”
Saint held up his hands. “Do you, man. But Vi’s not gonna fall into your lap like these other birds do.”
“No shit,” Bik muttered. “She’s made a bloody art of ignoring me!”
Saint laughed again. “You’re not used to that, are you?”
“No,” he pouted, the picture of the hard done by idol. “It’s awful.”
“Well, keep it up. From what I’ve seen, you are making some headway. Just be sweet to her. Vi is a scaredy cat.”
“I figured out that much,” Bik said, his voice as dry as desert sand. “What I don’t know is why?”
Saint just shook his head. “She has good reason,” he said, and walked away.
“That’s as clear as mud!” Bik called after him and was ignored. He sighed irritably. He supposed he should be used to it at this point. To hell with them and their secrets. He wasn’t giving up. Vi just needed to give him a chance. He knew in his heart that things would work out right. Meantime, he refused to give up!…
I hope you enjoyed this snippet and you’re looking forward to the book. Subscribe to my newsletter, okay? I publish new content for you to enjoy every week-ish.
