They say you only need two good friends in your life, and you only need two in case one dies. That’s a bit extreme lol, but I’ve found that true friendship is not easy to come by, especially as an adult. I’ve been blessed in my friendships, but I’ve never had many. It’s probably why the heroines in my books almost always have more than a handful of fabulous female friends.
That is as constant as my love for practical romance. In this snippet from my latest WIP “Saints and Sinnas,” I pick things up where last week’s blog left off. Sinna and Tan have left the party and are saying their goodbyes on the street because they’ll have to part and won’t be able to see one another soon.
It’s sweet with that element of — let’s take care of business so our love isn’t hampered. And when she has doubts, well, that’s where the good friends come in. Let me know what you think. Thank you for reading!
XOXO,
SS
Oh, the picture is South Korean actor Park Hae Jin who I’ve been watching in a Netflix serial called Man to Man. The heroine is kind of annoying, but he’s commanding enough as an elite spy that I can overlook it. lol
“Ah! My chariot has arrived. Cong-a!” Bik yelled.
“You’re going out?” Tan
Bik winked. “The night is still young. Ladies! Tan-y!” He got in Cong’s Benz and drove off.
Adam appeared in a new Range Rover, got out and scolded Tommy for waiting on the street.
“Sorry, Adam baby. I forgot!”
Then the girls kissed Tan goodbye and got in to give them some privacy.
“I’m leaving early. I’ll have to say goodbye now.”
“I’ll miss you,” Sinna said.
She looked so sad and sweet faced, Tan wanted to eat her. It was a look only he ever got to see. The rest of the world only knew the sophisticated veneer she was rarely without.
He squeezed her gently, loving her slight weight on his chest, the feel of her arms around his waist. “I’ll miss you more, my darling.” He kissed the top of her head, then rested his cheek there as he stroked her back. “Are you still going to the studio tonight?”
“No. On second thought I think I’ll go home and rest. I can work a bit from bed.”
“Good,” he snuggled her, gently rooting in the powder scented curve of her neck. “I don’t want to worry about you.”
Sinna sniffed.
“Are you crying?” He pulled away to look at her.
“No,” she said, teary eyed, and promptly sniffed again before she buried her face in his chest.
He laughed softly as he rocked her happily. “You really will miss me it seems.”
“Did you doubt it?”
“Sometimes you’re hard to read, my love. I want to believe you care as much as I do, but you don’t wear your heart on your sleeve the way I do.”
“You don’t.”
“Yes,” he grinned. “I do, but I don’t care if people know how much I love you.”
“Interesting philosophy, that,” she teased. “Since we’re not officially a couple.”
He just shook his head at her silliness. “That ring on your finger says otherwise.”
“True,” she stared at it fondly then looked up at him. “We’ll have to announce it when you come back.”
“I know. We should think about the best way to do it.”
“I have, actually.”
“Oh?”
“I was thinking of doing a video on IGTV for the Dolls. We’ll make it funny. Like, “I’m afraid I have some bad news…” Maybe the boys could chime in as I assure them that I will not be monopolizing all of your time, and that my efforts to make you look beautiful will be even more overt and to their taste.
“I will also assure them that PDAs will be kept to a minimum so as not to interfere with their fantasies of you as an object of desire,” she said faux seriously in a credible English accent. “After all, no one needs a wife in the mix gumming up their head and heart time with their favorite idol. So, as befits a good helpmate, I shall stay firmly in the background where I belong, and do my utmost to remain unseen by them, your most faithful and wonderful audience.”
He laughed joyfully. “That’s perfect! My members will be happy to help.”
“I figure a little bit of sincerity mixed with a little bit of comedy should create some goodwill for us.”
“It’s brilliant, darling. Will you let –”
“Yes,” she interrupted rolling her eyes. “I will let your uncle see it before I post.”
“I’m sorry for all the hassle, my girl. I know we should just be focusing on us right now. Instead you’re making videos for my fans.”
“I love you,” she said quietly. “I wouldn’t be wearing your ring, pledging to legally join my life with yours if I didn’t. This is part of the game,” she shrugged. “I understand.”
“Darling,” he whispered, and they kissed, long and lush and sweet.
“I gotta go.”
“I know,” he said, but he didn’t release her.
Sinna laughed. “Let go. Your car’s waiting.”
“Alright.” He didn’t.
Finally, laughing, she pulled herself away. He scowled, holding onto her hand until her fingertips finally slipped from his grasp. She waved from the car window, and he stood there on the street waving back until they were out of sight.
“Girl, he looked so pitiful,” Lani sighed.
“Why do you sound happy about that?” Sinna laughed.
“Because it shows that he loves you! This romance of yours is better than a K-drama. After that kiss I thought steam would rise up off the ground! You can tell he’s really gonna miss you.”
“He’s perfect for you.” Tommy.
“How you figure? I’m almost 10 years older than he is, he’s a different race, from a different country. And not a country that’s all that compatible with my American upbringing. That’s a lot to contend with.”
“Yeah, but none of it means shit when you love and respect each other, and he does.” Tommy
“Plus, you’ve got mad chemistry, not to mention shared work interests and work ethic.” Lani
“That’s very important,” Tommy stressed. “You always want a man to help you make money. Plus, Tan’s already got plenty of it. Money can relieve a lot of aggravation.”
Sinna nodded. That was very true. “He said as much,” she revealed.
“There you go. He’s the real deal,” Lani said. “Don’t let conventions and bullshit keep you from something good, girl. Enjoy him. That’s what he’s there for.”
“Okay?” Tommy
“Okay?” Lani
“Okay.” Sinna. Any minute now I’m going to feel as confident as everyone else is that I’m making the right decision, she thought.
