This is what authenticity looks like. Kelly freely admits to some jealousy over Beyonce’s success, but it doesn’t come off as negative. It’s natural, and it’s context-appropriate given her troubles in an abusive relationship. Best, she overcomes, isn’t bitter, and that flash of jealousy doesn’t prevent her from appreciating and loving her friend. It’s perfect, really. Few things are black and white, outside the pairings in my books, of course. *winks* I love that expression on her face when he spills the wine on her. Talk about a thousand thoughts trapped in one look! This is the first of Kelly’s tunes that I’ve actively listened to, though I’ve always admired her style, her honesty and how beautifully she keeps herself up. She hasn’t achieved Beyonce level success – who has? – but her career trajectory post Destiny’s Child has been consistent, impressive and, drum roll, please, positive. Well done.
