Men and women are different when it comes to fictional villainy. Men are typically villains because they’re cold-hearted, ruthless and have a ton of money with which to do all of the above. Women, can be the same, but our villainy is often rooted in emotion. Plus, we’re often a hair smarter, which enables us to be meaner.
I describe the villain in “Saints and Sinnas” as the Asian Mariah Carey. She’s beautiful, talented and rich. She’s also determined, delusional and selfish. In this week’s blog, which picks up where last week’s leaves off, I let you get your first real taste of Choon Hee, the best kind of villain. Of course, you’ve gotta read the book to find out whether or not our heroine can vanquish her. *winks* Let me know what you think!
Oh, the picture is of Yuta from K-pop group NCT-127. He has a gorgeous, sexy face that reminds me of what Cong from my book might look like, though Yuta is Japanese, and Cong is Chinese… Plus, I’ve been bumping “Boss” and “Superhuman” lately like it’s the thing to do!
XOXO,
SS
“Tan-ny!”
He turned, and 98 pounds of spoiled female idol landed on his chest. He immediately plucked her off and set her on her feet a full arm span away from him. “Choon Hee. Hello.”
“Hello?” Why are you speaking in English? She closed the space between them, one hand smoothing the sleeve of his shirt. Are you practicing?
Yes. How are you? He stepped back.
She stepped forward. Fine now that I’m back in your arms.
He stepped back again. You are not in my arms.
Again she followed. I would be if you would stop wrestling with me in public!
Tan sighed as he pushed her gently back for the third time. Stop it. You’re embarrassing yourself. This is not appropriate.
You are so stuffy! I think you take those cold, beautiful looks of yours to heart. So chic.
She smiled, and he knew if he cared for her at all he might have been moved by her beauty. As he did not, all he saw was the cold, selfishness in her big eyes, the discontented curve to her cupid’s bow mouth, the wide, fake smile that showed off her perfect veneers.
He sighed. Before she was a nuisance. Now that he had Sinna, he didn’t know if he’d be able to keep his patience with this foolishness.
I’m looking forward to seeing you on stage tonight, and I’ll see you after the concert, of course.
Thank you, but no, you won’t. I have plans.
Oh? An event? Where is it? I’ll go with you. You should not be without a date.
I won’t be.
She stared. What?
I won’t be without a date, he repeated. I have a girlfriend now.
She gaped. Are you kidding?
He stared at her like she was crazy. No! I’m not kidding. Why would I? We’re not public yet, so keep it to yourself, and please stop this nonsense. I –”
“Tan-ny!” Bik
“Ye?”
We are wanted elsewhere.
Tan nodded at Choon Hee who watched him walk away with her mouth open.
She looks like she’s trying to catch fish, Bik snickered.
Tan rolled his eyes. Why does she persist? Isn’t it obvious that I do not care for her?
No. She is far too vain to believe she is unwanted.
Where are we going?
To get ice cream.
Tan laughed softly. You were saving me?
You object?
“No! I thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
“Your English is fabulous, old boy.”
“The only problem?”
“What?”
“Because of you I have an English accent!”
Bik burst out laughing. “Hey, women like my English accent. It’s even more disarming because it comes from a Korean face.” He deliberately squinted to make his monolids slantier.
“Ah, so?”
Bik offered an elegant bow.
Punk.
But you love me anyway.
Who says?
You let me sleep in your bed when I was scared of the dark and homesick.
That was years ago.
You feed me when we go out to eat meat or sashimi.
Communal eating is part of our culture.
But you do it so cutely.
Tan sniffed and smoothed back his hair. It was a move he’d perfected to play an arrogant chaebol in his latest drama. For the cameras, perhaps.
Bik burst out laughing. Ah, you have gained confidence since you won the gracious attention of the beautiful Sinna-ssi.
My beautiful Sinna-ssi.
No need to emphasize such things, oppa. I know quite well who she belongs to.
Oppa! Punk.
Bik slipped his arm through Tan’s and grinned at him like an irrepressible younger brother. But you love me anyway. There is one benefit to Choon Hee’s sudden appearance.
“This should be good.”
“Sinna looked jealous.”
“No!” She saw that?
“Yup.” She is definitely jealous. She had a look on her face like, who is this bitch?
Tan burst out laughing. I can’t believe it! Maybe that idiot Choon Hee has a purpose after all.
She keeps up her nonsense, she could drive Sinna right into your arms.
That would be wonderful, but Sinna is no immature girl to be manipulated so easily.
True. But a little jealousy could speed things along if nothing else.
I hope so.
Bik laughed. “You sound desperate, brother.”
“I am! I want to make love to her so badly I’m going crazy.”
“She won’t?”
“No, I won’t. I told her I wouldn’t until she became mine officially. I thought she would give in before now, but she has proven herself a stronger opponent than I thought. I made a huge mistake in judgment.”
Bik laughed his head off. You’re pouting like a child!
Yes, but I’m suffering like a man.
