A coworker sent me a story from the New York Times featuring several strikingly lovely images of women in gowns with natural hair. The text briefly discussed the often misguided politics behind natural hair, mentioning the recent Nivea debacle that referred to a need to ‘civilize’ onself and depicted a natural.
Kudos to the Times for addressing the issue in such a beautiful way, and helping to show how natural hair can be elegant and sophisticated. We’re not all queueing up to start a revolution, you know. This is in fact just how my hair comes out of my head.
Having gone “natural” back in 2004 I second your kudos. If I may quote Kyle from the show Living Single, “It started out a matter of convenience and ended up a matter of pride.”
I love my TWA (tiny weenie afro) and at age 50 I never, ever plan to go back to European-izing my hair.
